You're inadvertantly associating the cost of the box with the unassociated cost of the Reality Engine. List price on the reality engine as a stand alone package is less than $50,000. As to the current price of the 24X150 R4400 unit with the RE2. It's list price is $634,900 with extremely good discounts available. A new Onyx with RE2 graphics and 4XR4400 150 is listed at $199,000 and sold for around $165,000. You're correct in assuming that the RE2's geometry engines are useless when it comes to rendering for tape output.
