Mark, if you want to keep track of preference order, have the respondents list the letter responses in order of preference, highest to lowest, and then note a numerical score for each letter in the respondents reply. In other words, if I list as my responses: f, g, e, a, c, d, b. Then assign a score of one to f, two to g, three to e, etc. Add all the scores from each respondent for each letter. The lowest score is the most favored question, the next the second, etc. Again, filter out duplicates, overlaps and such. That's the other technique, which is a bit more fine in distinguishing group preferences. Not the best, but quite workable. (It took me a while to figure out an easy way to describe it ;-).
