I am chairman of computer sciences at a private high school in NYC. We all know the education market has been seized by the Apple Macintosh, which is an abundant platform in our school. Yet when my students are exposed to our two 16 MHz Amiga 3000's they are inspired to do creative work well beyond the scope of what is offered by the Macs. My question is twofold: 1) How did Commodore let the education market slip away? 2) Is Commodore interested in the education market, and if so, what steps will it take to try to gain a larger slice of the pie. As every parent knows, 'what kids like, kids want'. Exposing thousands of school children to Amiga computers by granting them or selling them at EXCEPTIONALLY low cost to schools would be the most effective advertising/sales campaign imaginable.
