When I was working with the computer specialist in our school system, he told me that Apple's success was at least partly due to the fact that Apple provided people who would do almost all the work required to get federal grants to pay for the computers. They would write the proposals that had to be presented to the school boards, etc., and all the computer specialist had to do was edit them a little to fit local conditions – and they'd even do that if necessary. They did more to make it easy on the school personnel than anyone else. We had Commodore computers at that time, could not get any support at all, could not even find a place to repair the machines, and certainly had no help getting more. So the system replaced the Commodores with Apples. —Betty
