I'm a little confused here. Are you just saying that Windows 4 should've
abandoned pre-386 users (or pre-486 users, for that matter)? I can see that,
though there are an awful lot of those machines out there and abandoning them
completely is a somewhat risky–not very, but somewhat–marketing move (not
that anyone ever told Commodore, tho). On the other hand, if we're talking
about backwards software compatibility here, I don't see *any* logic to a new
OS *not* being backwards compatible (or, at least, as back-compat as possible).
It would make MS lots of $$$$ if everyone got Windows 4 and then had to buy
brand-new 32-bit versions of Word & Excel, but it would more likely cause armed
Windows 3.1 users to riot.
