answered your other questions nicely, I'd only re-emphasize the doing the tutorial part, and then reading the manual cover-to-cover (it's a good bedtime treat). What I suggested before should give you a foreground haze (aqua coloured image, with gradient rgb mask). Photostyler would be good for producing gradients and has more tools the 3ds for such things. I tend to think fog might be necessary for the background, too. Have you seen the shark flic on the r3 cd-rom? It may give you some ideas.
