Hi … Ground water levels, as well as the electrical properties of rocks, do change just before an earthquake. I have read that within a week before some major seismic activity, there have been noticeable shifts in both these areas. I wish I could remember in which books I saw this, but I know it was more than one, and I know I saw it referenced in books earthquakes, plate tectonics, and general geology. There is also some evidence that this little old lady in California has a geyser in her back yard, and the USGS is studying this geyser because it goes off with such regularity in connection with earthquakes that it's hard now to mathematically disqualify the periodicity involved. So, yep, ground water changes in relationship to seismic activity. I think if you call the USGS, they can probably put you right on the trail of the primary research.
