Multiple Questions
Betty,
I'll bet you groan when you see ME coming. I'm just full of problems
these days! I have two major difficulties. Let's see if you have any answers
or advice.
Problem number one: I don't believe I
mentioned it, but my modem is in a PC bus-slot, and I have to use it in
conjunction with my bridgeboard, and therefore MS-Dos software. I recently
downloaded the arc.exe program you mentioned. The process is this: I download
onto my bridgeboard, and then use an accompanying program, "AWRITE," to
transfer the program to my A2000 side. This was accomplished without a hitch.
Now comes the problem
During the session in which I downloaded ARC.EXE, I also downloaded a game
from the Amigaforum libraries on which to practice, TREK20.ARC. This program
was also transfered without difficulty. Now that I am in the A2000, I opened
the Shell and typed the command "ARC TREK20.ARC." I received a response that
read like this: Unable to load ARC: insufficient free store. I'm no expert,
but I thought this might have something to do with stack size, but ARC wouldn't
load under any stack size.
Any suggestions?
Problem number two: After 9 weeks of waiting for a returned 40-meg hard
card to be returned to me, I received it this afternoon. This hard card also
fits in a PC bus-slot, and the bridgeboard software includes two programs to
partition it for Bridgeboard/A2000 Use. Here is the problem. When I try to
utilize either of the programs (FDISK for the Bridgeboard side, and ADISK for
the A2000) I get nice messages, like "Error Reading Fixed Disk," or "Partition
Table Read-Write Error" Assuming I'm not doing anything wrong, I would guess
the hard-card is shot! Any suggestions?
I know you may or may not be a computer
repair wizard, but it sure helps to have someone else to bounce these problems
off of. Thanks a whole bunch for taking the time to read this nonsense
