Thanks for the info on Hitchikers I'll look for it. I don't know about Brit Sit-Coms being more sophisticated, it's just that they don't have to be so p.c. they take a jab at whatever the writers think will get a laugh, I agree that some of the college comedy shows: Monty Python etc. do have some oblique references but you have to remember these were orignated by college students originally for their own entertainment. Don't get me started on lawyers; only in America could two "kids" who freely admit they shot their parents get off with a mis-trial.
