If I had to pay for all the 'shareware' software that I have, I would have to give up computing! That is the blessing of 'shareware.' You don't have to pay for a program only to find out that it is not usable. Of course that puts a moral responsible on us all to pay for that which we do use. I am certainly not going to take a 'holier than thou' approach since this discussion has reminded me that I have been remiss on sending in some comtributions. I just hope that many others will respond too. I have noticed that several people that have written games have stated that they have not so much as received a thank you. I am not a game user so I don't run any games other than Adventure (the original Willie Crother type) and have that available for every machine that I own (interesting since it is written in assembler for most (all) machines.
