Lots of groups sell public domain disks. Alternately, many people buy PD disks
when they don't have to. In fact, I realized that was a good way for groups to
earn money, and encouraged this practice with the AMICUS disks. I thought a
lot of groups could use the money to get off the ground. Now that they are, of
course, it is all graft and corruption. Even AmigaWorld has caught on; last
issue they said they were starting a PD collection as well. I'm sure they
won't charge $1.50 a disk.
What about the user groups (such as the BCS) that re-condense the Fish and
AMICUS disks into custom PD collections, and then charge even more? Then sell
the same data again when they remove updated software and re-number the disks?
The graft goes on and on. The software producers never see a dime, yet all
sorts of money changes hands because of their work. Go figure.
