#SLOW RENDERING
I have installed Ver. 3 of 3D Studio, and contrary to claims, I am finding
rendering VERY slow, much slower than Release 2.03. I use two computers, both
486-33's, and move the lock back and forth depending upon the other jobs I have
to do. Rendering the exact same file to screen, on one computer, it takes 2:08
to render, plus 13 seconds for the display to crawl down the screen for a total
of 2:21. Release 2 takes 1:31 for the same scene. On the other computer,
Release 3 takes 1:50, while Release 2 takes 1:14.
What am I doing wrong with Release 3? Release 2 never took longer than 2 to 3
seconds to display a rendering on the screen after rendering was finished, but
with Release 3, waiting for the display to crawl down the screen line by line
(pixel by pixel?) is like watching grass grow.
On one computer, I use the Video VGA card, on the other I use the STB Windows
accelerator card. Both have 1 mb of memory. I am using the Vibrant drivers
for both computers. I tried switching to a straight VESA driver, and it
improved speed by 1 second – no help. Can you help? Thanks. Bud Leppard
