No, there are some systems, like the weather, that I think are just too large to be able to collect enough data about. I seem to recall an example in the Chaos, the Making of a New Science book that said even if you covered the globe with a grid of sensors at 1' intervals both horizontally and vertically, that the variations in between would still be enough to scramble your long-range forcasts. The more initial info you have, the better you can predict the short-range stuff, but the further into the future you look, the more those predictions just go awry. And you're right, sticking a thermometer/sensor somewhere absolutely has an effect on the ambient temperature it measures. I knew exactly where your message would be, but not at what velocity! Dave
