I talked to Chuck Bennett of Computer Systems Associates (CSA) of San Diego
last week, and he sent me the latest info regarding the 68020/68881
enhancements for 68000/68010-based systems.
As we know, they've been selling the 68020/68881 piggyback board for about a
year now which converts the Amiga (and other 68000 computers) to a 14MHz,
32-bit word computer comparable (for a single user) to a Vax 11/780. The
interesting thing is that they now have an expansion box for the Amiga. It
will support five plug-in boards (100-pin format), has a 32-bit backplane so
that you can use the new 68020/68881 board. It also has available a 512k
32-bit RAM board, a SCSI interface, and a 20Mb hard disk (plugs in the box).
To heat this, there is a 12.5A switching power supply. To cool it, there is a
muffin fan on top.
The cards are 8.5"X7". It plugs into the side of the Amiga and sits to the
right, although it is not long (like the muForge box). The boards plug in
horizontally and stack. It is kind of neat looking (from the picture sent to
me) and it says "Turbo Amiga" on the side (tastefully lettered).
I have the prices for these pieces plus a package price for the box
containing all of the boards plus the 20M hard disk. I won't list them here
for fear of breaking protocol (*Sysop(s), could you comment?)
