I agree with virtually everything you say. When I refer to porting I mean creating a piece of software that 1) will handle files, macros, etc. created on the original and vica versa, 2) will have all the powerful features (and more) of the original and 3) has enough design and functional similarity despite a totally unique interface that a user of the original will feel at home with it. I am much more interested in creating a unique Amiga package than in paying to port over existing software, but I think that business users will, at first, want to see their ols favorites — or good clones.
