Rick, I've finally figured out why we've been in different orchards (apples & oranges). When Tony and I tried the procedure, we were in TELCOM using the UP & DOWN functions. The difference is that you can type to each other just as if you were in the CO mode. You can prompt for download syncronizing (e.g. "ready!"). This procedure works well as long as you don't hit the CR when you're done typing. If you do, the cursor goes back to the beginning of the same line and further input overlays the last line typed creating quite a mess. The receiver sees the file being downloaded just as if he entered R on CIS; The sender sees everything typed on one line (I think – I can't remember). I like your method also because of being able to transfer Basic files directly. One question though- wouldn't you have to enter MDM:8I1E for a basic file? Seems like you would loose any character above 127. I hope this clears up the confusion. I really like this function because if you have a friend who's also a SIG member you can both download & trade files at half the cost. Dennis
