I had gotten the impression (apparently incorrect) from people who had worked with the format that it was missing the surrounding FORM declarations and only had the various chunks. I guess I'm wrong on that. If that is the only difference, then it *is* a valid IFF file, and it's the fault of the various program writers that they don't handle it in *some* way (even if only to drop extra bitplanes and colors). As I said, it's a matter of various companies adding their own little oddities to IFF. I suppose I should also add bulletproofing code so that it can handle those oddities, too. The former problem is a matter of companies not considering the consequences. The latter is plain carelessness, IMHO. –>Steve Bennett
