>>Oh yeah! I've skipped entirely the nightmare of the Simply3D install
apparently doing something to the hard disk boot files. I think I was so
traumatized by that that I'm blocking it out of my mind. <<
Denis: Yes, it did the same thing here… ate up the Fat file… one thing we
decided was that for some reason, possibly due to the controller card, we can
use S3D with 32 bit file access, but not with 32 bit drive access… (this is
my husbands area of expertise, not mine) and this was part of the problem.
About your other trouble, not being able to reinstall, I had the same problems
you describe when I installed Corel5 from the CD rom. It writes so many files,
here and there, it's almost like a little virus… when I tried to reinstall,
it wouldn't let me, because there was something telling it that it was already
installed… I suspect that even though you deleted the directory and group
there is still some little file saying no! (We solved that problem by deleting
everything that even looked like it began with a C, but I don't recommend that
method An uninstall program might have helped.) Corel has suggestions for
deleting their program, I think the same procedure would work for you to
eliminate your first install files… Do you have Corel5?
Until they send you the fix, I wouldn't worry too much if you can now use the
program, because IF, something happens to your hard drive, then you will
probably start from scratch and rebuild (which is what we did when we had the
above mentioned problem. We do think that the program is a memory hog, and it
needs the 32 bit access.
How much memory do you have and are you using a memory manager such as Qemm.
My husband believes that a good memory manager, such as Qemm, will help.
>> My thinking is is that either the Setup procedure has some bugs or that
there is something wrong with the CD ROM physically. << Yes, I agree, but I
don't think it's exclusive with this program, I doubt that you have anything
wrong with your CD.
(I would say for new users, have an up-to-date back up before installing, just
in case…)
Denis, I hope that you are using the program, and having fun with it… you
did say that you can use it now… what are you doing with it?
