Steve: I used Graphic Workshop to make thumbnails of the textures that I have,
also
use Vuejpeg, which is quite a nice viewer too. There are others… but these
are the ones that I use. May be better ones, I just found these.
George and Nick wrote me a very good note about transparent material.. that
might
be a help…
To make a gold colored material, I found a file that was about the right
"look" with not much texture to it, in my Corel PhotoCD Sampler. I cropped it
and saved it as a .tif file. To make a gold material, I started with a nice
yellow, added my texture and then used "shiny" with white as my second color,
to get it the way I wanted it… if this is not clear, I'll be more specific.
Probably others will have some suggestions too. I have done this with a number
of different files, finding things that are interesting, and then saving them,
perhaps rotating or whatever I need to do, then saving as a tif file. It's very
interesting to me, to see what happens when you add something to the material,
like coins for example.
