Try dirt! Garnet, zircon, and quartz should survive better as sands than anything ordinary because they are the hardest among rock-forming minerals. What's missing from a sand of these is what got pulverized. As for what is missing from a magnetite sand (it is softer), find the nearest quartz sand deposits (and again, dirt). As for the missing sizes of quartz, dig deeper! If it gets small enough, once again, seek out the local dirt. –Doug
