Hi, Kamron– Dig into a peat bog and find organic stuff buried for centuries. Once it gets below the surface, air and organisms can no longer reach it to support decay. There is so much carbon added so fast that what little oxygen diffuses down there is consumed, leaving the deeper layers totally anaerobic. Some artifacts millenia old have been turned up in such bogs, unusually well preserved by the reducing conditions. –Doug
