You are jealous of ME ? I would love to be able to go and do the field study like you are planning on doing. As for the scuba diving, it costs $275 for a full course ( which includes everything you will need until the end of the course, textbook, dive tables , etc.) Our class is very thorough, but we still manage to have a good time. During the course, all the gear you will need is provided. After that, gear rental runs about $45 to $50 for the first day pretty much anywhere you go. We charge 1/2 price for each additional day of rental. I have been speaking with one of the scuba instructors over at Chapel Hill, and I will be sitting in on the the classes if everything works out OK ( the PE department says that it is OK). I won't do any teaching there, but I will hopefully be a certified instuctor by then. If you would like to give me your address, I can send you some information on classes, prices, etc..
