What did you expect? MS/SI has been spreading leaks all over the place
that their next releases will be totally NT. Just run by one of the
larger shops that run dozens of seats of SI and listen to them
screaming and throwing things. PDI for instance has been strongly
expressing their extremely negative take on the whole thing.
SI recently slashed its pricing from the 45-60k range to 8k with 16k
getting you virtually everything they own. Educational pricing is
around $900.
The Upper portion of the market had to do something to combat the
MS/SI price slashing/ product dumping.
Although Adesk hasn't responded to any of this yet, the "onslaught"
from SI/MS with a ~$1999 SI package running on NT, will definately
turn a few heads. Also don't forget that the Newtek crowd is already
responding by porting to virtually every platform around.
Siggraph will definately be fun. 🙂
