The main one relates to the resolution of the animations you're planning to create. 640×480 animations may have problems playing on various machines if you have a lot of movement from one frame to the next. An example: an architectural walk-through would have nearly every pixel in the screen changing from one frame to the next. In contrast, character animation can often keep a static background while the characters do the moving.
