After a few false starts I have Animation Master Running well under Warp. But
why you may ask?
I often have the need to render multiple batches of animations, sometimes
executing a program to alter textures or other attributes within the files
[thank you HASH for providing ASCII files and at least some documentation!!!]
between each run. Doing this in Windows is impossible (or at the very least a
real pain). And doing this via the DOS RENDER24 program leaves my machine
useless for hours (or longer).
Well, I thought, if OS/2 is supposed to run DOS programs so well (including
DOOM II), maybe it can run the RENDER24. So I made the investment in OS/2
(reluctantly) and after some false starts I can report that OS/2 can indeed run
Render24! I also created a small batch file that allows multiple DOS Renderings
to occur simultaneously and still do a Windows rendering (multiple Windows
rendering is also easily done). It does slow down the rendering some if it is
placed in the background, but in the foreground the speed of RENDER24 compares
well to the Windows Rendering. And more important, I can continue working on
other projects and ideas (or doing accounting, YUK), while I crunch in the
background.
Based on my experience, OS/2 Warp has worked extremely well in solving my
particle problem. If anyone needs help or more information drop me a note.
All modules work flawlessly and quickly in seemless mode except RENDER which
must be ran Full Screen.
NOTE: This was done with Animation Master 2.07 and 2.08, I hope 3.0 will work
the same way .
Equipment: 486 80 DX2, 16M RAM, ATI Graphics Ultra PRO 4M VLB
Note 2: Under warp the ATI fail multi-media playback in OS/2 at 24 bit mode. I
therefor have been running in 65536 color mode. No Problems. This is a known
bug in OS/2 Warp.
