For your shadow problem, try setting (or adding if it's not listed) the
SHADOW-BIAS-ABSOLUTE setting to ON in 3DS.SET – ie add to be a line reading:
SHADOW-BIAS-ABSOLUTE = ON
You may need to readjust the bias of your lights, but this keeps the shadow
bias from being computed relative to the scene size, which may be your problem.
