#3D paint for 3DS!
Here's an IPAS news flash for ya…
I've just spent the last day having a BLAST with a true 3D paint program
running inside of 3DSr4. It's AMAZING. Although the program is from a 3rd
party developer (not Yost Group), it looks EXACTLY like the UI that we used in
Optimize and Displace. You just select an object to paint on, and then you can
rotate it to the orientation you want and start painting with user-definable
brushes (you've got control over many aspects of the brush, such as opacity,
feathering, angle, etc.). You can apply noise and other effects as "textures"
to the brush, and you can use pieces of bitmaps as brushes. In addition to
painting directly on the 3D model, you can bring up a 2D window to see what
your actual bitmap that you're creating looks like.
The whole thing is pretty mind-boggling, and I'm THRILLED to see something like
this come to 3D Studio in such an intuitive (and compared to the SGI market,
inexpensive) form.
I can't comment on who the developer is right now, but I've been assured that
this is going to ship before NAB (in early April). I'm sure that they'll make a
formal announcement sometime within the next month.
Whoa!
