John; We have the Pinnacle drive you are referring to, the RCD-1000. I use it on the MAC and IBM sides. I am not terribly happy with it. You can make usable CD's with it, but I find that you have to use it VERY conservatively to get dependable results. If I don't want to worry about trashing a CD I have to write at single speed and make an image file. The image file step doubles the time it takes to record a disk. Also, you must have enough storage space to store the image file, since it is the same size as your finished CD. On our fastest MAC an 8100 powerPC, I can write an image file at double speed(usually). Also, multisession disks are problematical with the RCD-1000. On the MAC I find that only the RCD-1000 itself can read any but the first session. On the IBM, Multisession writes often simply trash the disk. Additionally, Pinnacle tech support is very difficult to reach. I thaink they are pretty understaffed, though they are pretty good once you finally get through to them. If you need an RCD and Pinnacle is all you can afford, then you should get it. It does work, though you probably will wasted some RCD's. But if you can afford it, you will probably be happier with one of the better units. I understand that Phillips and sony are about to announce price cuts, which may make them more competitive with Pinnacle. I have heard the Phillips is a good unit.
