#PLEASE HELP! R4onP5-100
I need help and cannot get it from my Autodesk dealer (or Autodesk).
Basically, my dealer's response is "That doesn't happen on my
machine…" I hope someone out here may have had a similar problem.
I would be deeply indebted..
I have just purchased a Pentium (Gateway 2000 P5-100XL). The
following is what I have loaded on my machine:
Video card: ATI Mach64 2MB PCI
Sound card: SoundBlaster 16
Hard drives: Two 1-gig Western Digital Enhanced PCI IDE drives
RAM: 32 MB
Cache: 256K
DOS: Version 6.22
(Also, SONY 17" Vivitron Monitor, Micorsoft Mouse, Windows for Workgroups-which
I do not bring up and there is a network card installed that I intended to use
to network my 486 and P5-100 together with)
I have not been able to successfully install 3DS-R4 on this machine. My 486-50
DX2 runs Release 4 perfectly. At first I could not even get R4 to come up, it
gave me a stream of errors while the VIBCFG was running, such as:
Abnormal Program Termination: Illegal Instruction: CS:EIP = 00Fh:0017789Ch or
Abnormal Program Termination: Page Fault: CS:IP 000Fh:00104F47h
I tried wiping out my autoexec.bat and config.sys files completely and
the same error occurred. I re-installed many times on both my C and D
drives and there are times that R4 will come up (from my C drive).
During those brief moments of pleasure, while working in a project
file in the 3D-editor, other errors are displayed at the top of my
monitor and I'm sorry to say I have not written them down yet, but
they mentioned overlapping or extended memory, something about field
lengths, they all seem to pertain to memory allocation or locations.
I swapped my video card with the one in my 486 and removed the network card
(even though it is not in use) and the same exact errors occur. I bumped my
mouse drivers down to the version I have on my 486 (9.0) vs the Intelifont?
<–spelling? drivers. I e-mailed Vibrant on their BBS but have not heard a
response back yet. I am wondering if it is a problem with the Enhanced IDE
drives and R4 or Vibrant's software… Any suggestions, I have been staying up
many late nights trying to resolve this and have fallen behind schedule with my
workload.
Thanks in advance. Denise
