I really object to this policy, and I say that as a bbs operator. Much of
the UNIX software on my board has been developed, tested and debugged by
members of the non-profit orgranization for which I operate the system. Our
intent is to distribute this software as widely as possible (we cater to
academic computer users) and to get it used in colleges and universities.
We _want_ people to download it, use it, and even send it over netnews. It
was public domain stuff before we fiddled with it, and even though our
modifications and documentation may be significant, we really want to
share. I haven't placed any copyright on my board, and I don't intend to.
CIS makes it's money as I sit here typing this message. You work hard, and
so do I – but nobody pays me… jan
