We talked about this a little in CO tonight, but I thought I'd answer in
the messages anyway. In Selby Bateman's "CompuServe and Public Domain"
article in the November Compute! magazine, Rich Baker (director of
corporate communications for CompuServe) is said to have said…
That means no copies of any public domain software can be made legally
for distribution without prior written permission from CompuServe,
he says.
As you can tell from the last two words, this is attributed to him but is
not a direct quote of his words. Later in the article, though there is a
direct quote:
"It's just like any other copyright. They [down/uploaders] would
make application in writing to us, and we would review it and
respond in writing with permission or denial."
Frankly, this looks bad.
