#Consulting…

Peoples, please aid me in my endeavour. I have been hired by a company to
CONSULT! This company is looking for Hi-Tech projects re:Computers and I
am asked to consult to the point of giving the Yea or Nay on projects, and
various explanations to the Board of Directors on why or why not they
should do something.
OK, now for the hard part… What should I charge as an hourly rate? I
didn't know what to say, so I put it off twice now, but today they handed
me a cheque for $500 and told me it was a retainer.
Would someone care to elaborate on how retainers work in relation to
consulting, and what a good rate would be?
Thanks, Brian R. Niessen
P.S. If this were programming, I would have no problem deciding what to
charge, but since no programming is required, I don't know. One other
point. There is possible (probable) travel. How do I charge for travel
time, etc. I may spend 2 days on the trip, but only work 1-2 hours at the
destination. Another dilemma. (They pay all expenses on trips).
Thanks again, bri
