Ben, Materials are made up of atoms/molecules which are held together via electromagnetic attraction and/or the weak nuclear force. As such, any attempt to accelerate an ultra-light ultra-rigid device to anything approaching the speed of light would cause an increase in mass of the faster moving part of the bar vs the slower moving part of the bar thus, if nothing else, the "drag" caused by inertia would be strong enough to overcome those bonds and allow the bar to either bend or break.
