As a moral (as opposed to legal) issue, I think that it IS immoral to
merely extract some other designers outline, rename and distribute it — as
wrong as making K-Mart knock-offs of Designer original dresses. I would
hope that this forum would refuse to post such knock-offs.
I don't, however, think that ANY use of Metamorphisis (or any program like
it) is immoral. If I were creating a logo using a typoeface, and needed an
"R" with one of the legs ended in a tennis raquet (for instance), that
IMHO, is an appropriate use of such a product. It is the electronic
equivalent of a practice which has been acceptalbe for years.
When it comes to using such a product to create a font of fractions, swash
characters, or small caps, which the creator (or licence holder) has chosen
not to market, I am less clear — I lean, however, toward acceptance of
this.
