HELP!!! I need to know if I am being hosed by our friends in Hauppage. Here's the story to date … We have an old L300 with a RIP 1 and a new L300 with a RIP 3. When we bought the new L300, our Lino salesperson told us to by the "power upgrade" for $1950. This upgrade would be done to the old L300 and would allow us to use the old L300 with the new RIP 3 in case the new L300 should require service sometime in it's life. Well, when the new L300 was installed, there was no upgrade package for the old L300. "Not to worry" explained the Lino technician who installed the new L300. "It doesn't need an upgrade and the new RIP 3 can run the old L300 without the upgrade. He then proceeded to hook up the new RIP 3 to our old L300 and we ran some test files to our satisfaction. To date, we have not had to resort to running the old L300 with the new RIP 3 and have left it attatched to the new L300. Today, to everyone's surprise, we receive the "power upgrade" via UPS with a note to call the Lino technician for installation. And now we come to the question … "What is the purpose of this "power upgrade" and is it worth $1950?" Since we have seen a live demo in our own shop that it works without the upgrade, I feel like I should return this piece and demand a credit. It sure seems like a pseudo-upgrade and a con job to me. Anyone else have this happen to them? Anyone know what this thing is? Please respond ASAP, I trust you people more than Linotype!
