PostScript is much more involved than sending sequences of escape codes. There are several books on PostScript programming available, including a series of technical books. For actual PS programming, check with folks on the Adobe forum. Depending on what you're doing, you'll probably find software that can do what you want more easily than writing routines. If you tell us the kind of effects you're trying to create, we might be able to suggest some software that will do what you want.
