David, I attended a Promotional Perspectives seminar two years ago and was very impressed (sorry, Thom!). But then, I'm a rank beginner to any type of design, and the seminar was geared to beginners. They went over design considerations like making sure your reader will open the page the right way after taking the piece out of the mailbox, use of graphics and white space, scaling photos, basic vocabulary, paper and ink considerations, fonts, etc. Very helpful to me was the session afterward where they critiqued your own newsletter. But again, this was done on a very basic level — she said, "I'd use a Palatino font," and I said OK and have done so since, taking her word that it's a good choice. (Do I hear all the professionals cringing?) The seminars are not system-specific, and not technologically- or software-oriented. Others here on the forum recommended something called, "Pocket Pal" to me as a good basic source of DTP information. I also just got a HyperCard program called "DTP Advisor" which is supposed to have basic info (but I haven't had a chance to really look at it yet). ——– Susan P.S. I'd also look into Thom's seminars, though, since his credentials are good (and he's giving a discount for DTP Forum members!). There was a classified ad a few days ago with his schedule.
