TeX is VERY popular in the scientific, especially the mathematical community. At the Caltech math dept. we consciously decided not to use it after observing that in many places the result of switching to TeX was that faculty typed their own papers. So we use a WYSIWYG scientific word processor with awful looking fonts instead. But we are trying to make sure one secretary is TeX-literate because occasionally we are asked to provide things like abstracts for conference programs in TeX format. There are also a few journals that will accept TeX manuscripts which saves one proof-reading. OTOH, I've not seen many mathematicians on CIS. – Barry
