Donna, hope this is not too late for you (I've been away for a while). 1) Diff between II and IIP: II is stressed for 40,000 pages per month; IIP for 20,000 pages per month. II cartridges aprox $90; IIP approx $65. IIP has more built in fonts. IIP is slower than II by about 2 pages/min. HP IIp uses a different engine than a II (I forget which one is which) but the IIP uses the one that creates nice solid blacks where you have a patch of black instead of "snowed on" black like the II and Apple Laser Writer IIntx. 2) Postscript: you can use CGFonts with ProPage, or do PostScript to a file from any of the packages you mentioned and then PixelScript the file to the printer. Excellent I/O. Pixelations also has released a postscript downloader to download fonts to a postscript printer. PostSript in a cartridge is available for the IIP form Pacific Peripheral (I think that is the name). They can be found advertisining in BYTE and the cartridge was reviewed in BYTE a month or two ago. Functioned flawlessly. Don't worry about HPGL or the HP native printer commands. I fool with them 'cause I'm a tinkerer. For all the DTP, graphic, spreadsheeet/accounting, program listing etc etc that I've done there has never been a need to use other than the Ados 1.3 HPLaserJet driver or the package supplied driver for an LJ II (a la PageStream.) Plug it in, go to preferences and select the LaserJet driver and enjoy printing. <continued>
