Tried your board again and still having great difficulty getting in.
Have JRCOMM set to 9600 and using RTS/CTS
Have modem set to HW handshake, best connection, fixed rate (AT
commands\n3\j\q3).
I'll get in but the signon screen shows up in spurts with long pauses. Is
this normal with MNP modems buffering or does it indicate retries? When i
try to type at best one character in 3 shows up on screen.
If i turn off all the MNP stuff in both hw/sw, (AT\n\j1) and just try to
run straight 2400 mode, i start to see signon screen but it rapidly
deteriorates into garbage.
Have you had any line complaints on your end or do I go screaming at PA

I've found that the "spurts" you mention happen to me as well. Many times
it is just what you think it is. Error recovery retries. Another
possibility is that the MNP modems (and error correcting modems in general)
do it by using something akin to a file transfer protocol. The data is sent
in packets. If the packets were displayed as they were received — you'd
see garbage. So, packets are not displayed until they are fully received.
It's normally almost invisible to you unless there are errors, then you may
see pauses.
That's basically what i thought was happening. The lines were really bad
for a couple days when the rains came through and of course it had to be
when i tried out the new modem.
Tried the MNP 4 connection to CIS the next day. Effective transfer rate
was only 600 bps BUT I didn't get any retransmissions at s/w level (that's
remarkable even on good days around here). So they apparently work but
watching that rate slow down is sure annoying. Still at least the file got
there, i've often had days where the s/w (and i) just gave up.
