Toaster1.0 crashes often

My Toaster has the nasty habit of meditating with a Guru every time I
try to talk to it. I hate it when the machine just sits there with its legs
crossed and says "ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmm–ohmmmmmmmmm."
It has been particularly bad since I received the new software. I have
been using Lightwave quite a bit, and it usually crashes before I can
finish the session. sometimes it crashes before I can finish loading up
objects into a scene. This is quite unacceptable.
I tried reloading the software off the original floppies, but to no
avail. Version 0.9 worked much better for me–it sometimes had trouble
loading, but never crashed this often. Could I have bad Software? Another
possible symptom in Lightwave is that some objects (while I'm in layout)
will have one or more lines that shoot off and away, as if that object had
a point far off the screen. Any Suggestions?
P.S. I have a GVP series II SCSI hard drive controller. I was told some
weeks ago (by NewTek tech support) that the white lines that appear in my
framestores are the result of contention between my controller and the
toaster. The white lines still show up in version 1.0 (to my
dissapointment). Could this be the problem?
