Multi-function card

What would you reccommend as a good multi-function card for use with the
BridgeBoard? I have a 2088 and am mainly just looking for 128K memory to
get up to 640K but figure if I'm going to use a slot, I might as well get
some other stuff on there too. Thanks for the help.
Don
Don,
Get a board that gives you a serial, parallel (and probably a game
port) ports and includes a battery backed clock/calendar plus the ability
to add memory.
Don
Don,
Yes, that pretty much was what I had in mind. I guess what I was looking
for was a specific name brand, as boards like this of the XT type don't
seem to be too common any more. I've had a hard time finding one which
meets these requirements.
Any suggestions?
Don
Don,
I've got an Emulex Persyst FastRam IV board that meets those
specs…in fact it not only backfills to 640 K main memory…it'll take up
to 2 Meg of memory for use as EMS RAM. Of course, it is no longer produced
but still can be found here and there. The same board was also sold under
the Thesys brand name.
I understand the AST SixPak also works fine (but it doesn't support
EMS RAM).
Don
Don,
Thanks for the tips. You say the first board you mention is not being made
any more. But I guess the AST board is. Where would be the most likely
source of a product no longer being produced?
Don
Don,
Surplus electronics stores. Look in the yellow pages under
Electronics Equipment. In particular, look for places that sell used
equipment.
Don
Don,
I have the Thesys Fastcard IV too, and it works great. I got it when J&R
got a bunch of them a year ago, but they sold out quickly.

Marion,
Out of curiosity, does the Thesys card have the hardware password
feature like the Emulex card has? I know the rest of the features are
identical since I talked to Ron Troy about it…but forget if it had the
password feature or not.
Don
Yes, the Thesys does have the hardware password feature, which I've never
used.
Ron
Don,
Yes it does, though I'd totally forgotten about it.
