Does anyone know if an A2090 Hard Disk Controller can co-exist with one of the new GVP Series II SCSI Controllers in an Amiga2000? I've got a 20Meg ST-506 drive connected to my A2090 and an external 48Meg SCSI hard disk connected to its SCSI port. I'm thinking of getting a Removable Hard Disk with a GVP card to support it. I'm wondering if the A2090 with the ST-506 drive would co-exist with the GVP card at the same time in my machine? Does anybody have experience with this? I sort of hate to see my 20Meg drive go to waste if I have to completely get rid of the A2090. Also, who would buy an ancient A2090 and a small 20Meg drive? B^) Nobody I know is foolish enough to buy it! B^) Thanx in Advance! -Darrell Ringler

Darrell: It's funny, I was in almost the exact same situation three weeks ago: I had a Commodore 2090a controller, Rodime 44 Meg MFM drive (stock 2500), and had a removable drive (Bernoulli) that I needed the GVP series II to run. I called GVP. They said "Yes, they'll coexist." I ordered the GVP II, installed it, and YES! — Everything worked! Here's where my story diverges from what you say you want: I also ordered a Maxtor 96 Meg drive for $299 from IME 1-800-999-1911. I connected that to the GVP and transferred everything from the old Rodime/2090a to the big (and quieter!) Maxtor SCSI drive. Then I took out the 2090a, took out the 44 Meg drive, and SOLD it to some poor soul with an Amiga 2000. I put an ad in "Computer Currents", a local (Bay Area) free computer mag, and sold it the day after the ad came out. My advice is: buy a new hard drive, and sell your old HD/Controller. Check out new hard drive prices! They're mighty tempting! And someone on a budget would love your 2090a/HD combo (sell for, say $150 or $175) Check it out! – Roger

Roger, That's probably what I'll end up doing. Sell my old 2090 & Hard Disk setup after getting a removable hard drive and hard card. Probably go for a big Quantum hard drive bolted to the new GVP controller card. I'll probably wait until after the upcoming World of Amiga in NYC in a couple weeks. I was at the AmigaWorld Expo in NYC on Friday, but there was really only ONE dealer selling the GVP cards. It was pretty much a waste of a trip into the city for the show. I bought more stuff at a couple bookstores in the city than at the Expo!!! Thanx! -Darrell Ringler
