#AMIGA 2500/3000
6 messages in this thread
I have been an IBM based user for some time now…..I have also been
heheavly involved in computer graphics (TARGA and such) and video
production for appox 10 years. I am on the verge of branching ouout and
starting my own small production company…all I have heard is great things
about the AMIGA 2500/300 system and its capabilities…..How many video
production task can it accomplish? I know it can do CG and animation…will
it supply my editing controller needs…does it have the ability to control
VCR's? How about switching? Will it switch 2 or 3 VCR's with fades
dissolves and other 'switcher type" moves? I am attempting to see this bad
boy of desktop video in action but have not had the opportunity yet….any
input would be greatly appreciated…or feel free to contact me at
1-813-579-8600 daily. Thanx
The Amiga, in conjunction with a third party product called the Video
Toaster, can do switching/fades/dissolves/all kinds of special effects
*provided* that the VCRs are Time Base Corrected. There are also devices
and software to control certain VCRs/Laser Disks, etc. Most of this can be
script controlled through AREXX scripts. There's literally a whole slew of
video oriented products out there. My closest Amiga dealer is actually a
camera and video store who carries it solely for video production people in
the area.
It's really difficult to properly describe the toaster in a few words,
and the words just don't do it justice. If you can find a place willing to
demo one, go look at it.

Thanks alot Steve…I will indeed make an effort at taking a look at it
this weekend…..and you will probably hear from me again… BTW…my
interests are mainly in 3/4 Standard or SP Sony machines.. Is an editing
controller necessary for this type of setup? Any compatibility problems
that you are aware of? What about HAM-E and the new FIRECRACKER board are
they in addition to or instead of the TOASTER? As you can see I have a ways
to go to learn this new technology…..but that usually doesnt take me
long….THANKS AGAIN!
There is also a pro editing system for the Amiga that, besides
controlling up to 31 external devices, such as VCRs, VTRs, switchers &
audio mixers, can also control the Toaster. It also does single-frame
recording.
There is also a SMPTE time code reader for logging tapes (etc.), and an
edit decision list processor for transferring lists to and from a
stand-alone editor, and list cleaning, sorting, etc.
Let me know if you want more info. —Mike
Well, Mike….Don't leave me hangin'! Give me more info! Who makes this
stuff…shall I assume Microillusions? Is there a phone number I can call
for more details? Or give me a call at 813-579-8600. Thanks
The edit system is from RGB Video, the rest of the stuff is published by
MicroIllusions. Except for the edit system, I offer deep discounts if
ordered from me.
I won't be in my office during the day this week for phone calls. Email
me your address and I'll send you some literature. You can also glean some
info from various files in DL10 of the AMIGAVENDOR forum.
