What's this about AW tech j? Has if folded too?
Sure has.
OH NO. Not another one. Why can't the Amiga community support this type of
magazine?
I don't remember IDG's official statement, but I think it said the magazine
was cut as part of a company-wide belt tightening. IDG publishes hundreds
of magazines worldwide, all the "World" magazines. I'm sure they felt AWTJ
took too many resources (people) to produce, based on its sales. I've heard
it was profitable, in some sense. As to why the Amiga community can't
support magazines like this… I think it can. Obviously, pepole liked it
and bought it regularly. On the other hand, the "Amiga community" isn't
that large. Developers are a small subset, compared to all those A500 game
players, A2000 video heads, etc.
Maybe cause the price was too high? Perhaps if it went diskless with the
files downloadable from Genie, BIX and CIS, or orderable by mail as an
extra option, it might have done better.
The other explanation is that some people resisted both tech journals
becaus the thinking was that tech material should have been a regular
portion of the more popular regular mags – as I recall, Amazing had such
articles early in its life.
A third party tech journal might have done better, but the counter to that
is the Transactor example. :^{

They told us at AMIExpo Oakland that the two pubs (tech j, dealer rpt) were
being combined into a tabloid-sized publication.

So the subscribers will be taken care of? AWTJ folded for sure? Is the new
tab confirmed to replace them or is it pipe >NIL?
I wasn't told anything officially — just that if I wanted to submit an
article for either pub, it should be written for the new format, to include
both the tech jour and dealer rpt.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds ecourgaging anyway; ie the mag isn't being
dropped entirely.
