AirLink info

Hey, thougth I'd post my initial thoughts on a new little piece of
hardware/software I just acquired. The 'AirLink', made by Geodesic
Publications (PO Box 956068, Duluth, GA, 30136 – 404-822-0566).
It is a little device that plugs into the joystick port, and controls
Intrared gear. Right now it is sitting here and I can control my VCR and
CD player (only IR devices in the room) with ease, via a little 'remote'
image I created in DPaint. Just click on the play, record, rewind, etc
buttons and the equip just does it!
The learning commands are pretty slick. Just aim your remote right at the
device, click on the button you want to learn that command, and DING! It's
done. The software has all sorts of tools to refine the signal if things
go awry, but I haven't had to use them yet.
The software is multitasking, so I can fill my screen up with multiple
'remotes' and control all equip directly from the amiga.
Oh yeah, full ARexx control too. 🙂 (but they sell another program called
'InfraRexx' that purports to offer a standalone ARexx interface. I'm
ordering that next.
Full 'hot key' support too.
Full MIDI control too. ie. control your IR equip from your MIDI keyboard.
Example scripts supplied for controlling the darn thing via AV,
Bars&Pipes…. easy to construct CanDo, Director, Foundation support as
well.
They also sell a device that will transmit the IR signals to a receiver in
another room. So you can have your amiga in one room, controlling the
equip in another room! (or in multiple rooms)
Yeah, there is a catch. The cost. It does cost…. but ONLY $50.! And
the remote xmitter/receiver is only $40.! Hey, it's pretty simple
hardware, but the software here is worth it. Gotta be the best $90 I've
spent on amiga stuff in a long time.
If anyone is interested I'll post more info as I get more along with this.
But so far I am very impressed. (this is from the same guy who brought
you 'Triclops Invasion' years ago, so it's gotta be good! How many out

John,
thanks for the inside info on that interesting piece of equipment. The
message went into my .KPT file, ready to be found when I feel like buying
an offbeat gadget. (The Infrared room-to-room gizmo is one thing I've been
thinking about — just think, I could use Video Director to do edits
WITHOUT EVEN MOVING THE SECOND VCR FROM THE UPSTAIRS BEDROOM!)
