#expansion for my 3000

I have an Amiga 3000 and am curious as to future additions to this machine.
I am especially interested in the following: 1) Will the new CDRom be
available soon? Will this play CDs made for IBM machines by any chance? (I
am a physician and there are some important CD data files for IBM that I
could use). 2) Now that I have the original hard disk almost filled up,
how hard is it to add a second hard disk? Is this internal? What kind of
cost are we talking about? 3) How about a board such as the bridgeboard or
something new for the 3000 which again will help me with needed IBM
programs? Do these run everything? Do I then have to partition my hard
drive in a "permanent" fashion to use it? Must I also get another floppy
drive for IBM? 4) Anything else that is being made for the 3000 that
sounds neat? Thanks very much.

I cannot answer for the CD ROM portion.
If you only have one floppy then you can add a second hard disc internaly.
Depending on the size of the SCSI disk you go with costs range from $250 –
$lottsa money big drive..
I added a 160meg Seagate drive internally and I manufactured my own cable.
If you are squeamish about this you should let your dealer do this for
you..
Some nice new video boards comming out, altho they are not 3000 specific.
Also interesting is the '040 boards for the 3000 (like the merkury (SP?))..
UNIX S5R4 being released for the Amiga (seperatly) is nice for the
technical crowd..

As far as CD-ROM goes I suggest you look at the March 92 Amiga World. If
you can get a hold of one. They go through what to look for in an IBM or
Mac CD-ROM to use it on your Amiga. Or you could use a Bridgeboard and a
SCSI controller (2 or 3 slots gone) and add a CD-ROM for the bridge and
then transfer the files you need. (Boy does that sound like a Rube
Goldberg way to get from point A to point B.) But yes it can be done. If
you have a future need for your video slot then you can't use the 286
bridge board with this setup. Good luck!
