#A1000 buss noise

I have a problem may be someone can help me with. I have an Amiga 1000
that has 2.5 Megs of RAM with Spirit's X-RAM board, DKB's Kwikstart II
board with 2.04 and 1.3 ROMs installed, and two floppies. The problem that
I am having is that I tried ICD's AdIDE 40
[Akit with 52 MEG AT hard drive without much success. I tried this system
because it was recommended by the December 1991 AmigaWorld issue that it is
compatible with A1000. Yet this system is hard to get going without
spending a whole lot of money. I tried ICD's tech recommendation such as
extra grounding on the motherboard, shortening the drive cable, and
installing the DKB's FastPal chips on the daughter board, but none of these
suggestions seem to do the trickIt seems that the mother board expansion
bus can only two seperate systems at once and the ICD's hard drive kit it
just crashes no matter what you do. Could someone recommend anything else
I can do? I am at my wits end and I try save much money as possible, but I
think I will buy another Amiga such as A2000 or A3000 later this
year;hopefully, Commodore will lower the prices of the Amiga later this
year so the Amiga will sell a whole lot faster than they are now. I hope
someone can make a reasonable recommendation. Hackers if you are at there
please make some recommendations.

Betcha anything if you remove the X-RAM the AdIDE will work. Spirit's RAM
boards had some real problems working with other expansion devices.
If the system works without the X-RAM, I'd suggest selling/trading it and
getting a Starboard II or Alegra board.
Thank you Denny Atkin for your suggestion. But I think I'll upgrade to an
Amiga 2000 since the Spirit board will work with A2000 and I can up to
8-Megs of RAM.

Be warned that the Spirit board is almost as likely to cause problems in an
A2000 as well….

Something that also may help, use a 68010 processor. They have much
greater noise immunity on the bus and give a small increase in speed as a
side benifit, this can help in many cases.
Also have you grounded all the PALS together ?? There is a problem on
the daughter board the PALS are not tied very well to the same ground. The
normal fix is to tie all of the PALS ground pins together and run that same
wire down to the motherboard. Worked for me back before I got my
Rejuvenator. I also have a Lucas/Frances accellerator and a Wedge hard
drive controller with 160 meg Maxtor MFM drive running 2.04 just fine.
A1000's will never die. ha ha ha ha !!

You might have bus noise or you might be overloading the voltages on the
CPU socket. If I remember right the Kwikstart and the ICD drive both fit
into the CPU socket. My 1000 had a little trouble with Spirits' In1000 and
an AdSpeed stacked on top of each other. I ran an extra +5v and GND over to
the bottom of the motherboard. Right now I am running 6 different add-ons
including a Revuvenator and everything works fine.

I believe that there is an IDE interface available for the 1000 under the
DataFlyer name…I am not sure who the manufacturer is. I am also not sure
if it is an A500 "sidecar" that mounts backwards, or an actual 1000
peripheral. It will, at least, let you keep the 52 meg AT drive.
