#HELP! HD Validation!

This seems as likely a place as any for info. 🙂
I use my A3000 as a UUCP node, so volume "w:" (where I have it set up) gets
a *lot* of work (it's a Quantum 105, chained to the Amiga 55 meg HD).
Lately, I've been coming home and finding a nice flashing alert (I'll jot
the code down next time), and having to reboot. When it reboots, about 10%
of the time I get a requester with "Volume W: is not validated". I click on
RETRY, and it boots fine. As far as I can tell, nothing has been lost or
damaged.
I'm backing up every day, but this concerns me! Anyone have any idea what's
going on here, and what I should be doing?

It sounds like your HD has a "bad spot" or some program you're running is
causing a crash during a write. The first thing I'd suggest is backup the
HD and reformat the drive. If the problem continues after that then one of
the UUCP programs is most likely at fault.

All of the UUCP programs that I have tried eventually crash the machine
(some immediately and some……).

Really? I've been using the Dillon UUCP package for quite a while without
a problem.

OK, I have not had much success but then I have to admit that I have not
tried very hard. Too many other things going on and I have source that can
see to it that I get the binaries that I request in binary.

Lloyd, you probably have a bad spot on your drive. Backup and reformat.
