#IBM touchscreen
4 messages in this thread
Hi everybody,
I am wondering if it would be possible to connect an IBM 8516 Touchscreen to an
AMIGA 1200 computer. This is a VGA(15pin) monitor and the touch screen part is
an IBM PS/2 style mouse connector.
I would like to do this because this is the only touchscreen available on the
island and I will be needing 8 of them.
thanks for any help.

I'll bet the answer is "maybe".
I've got an IBM 8515 on order from a refurb company, and if the 8515 is
just the 8516 without the touchscreen, then they share one thing that
makes it difficult to use with the new Amigas: the don't have the ability
to sync to 15khz.
The minimum sync rate is 31khz for the 8515, therefore the initial boot
screens would be jumbled, and the GURU screens would be jumbled as well.
On the other hand if you've got a dedicated application in mind for these
computers, this "flaw" may not be that serious.
Thanks for your reply. I'm using an IBM 8512 on my Amiga 3000 right now with no
problems. I know 8515 will work also. But my problem is how to implement the
touchscreen part. I guess for the connector you need a converter but what about
the software?.
